Hardly anyone talks about Lice & Nits online. It’s such a taboo and it shouldn’t be. The lack of awareness is what leads our frustrated school/kindergarten teachers and childcare workers to deal with constant infestations 😩🫡 Schools then have to roll out the same government email procedure (which was last updated in 2009 🥴) I would love to update that document. I would love to go in to schools and educate kids in a fun way…. but, for now, I’ll start here with the parents 🤓

I’ve had L&N experience with my own daughter when she was 4yo and I’ve had plenty of exposures in my 10 years of running Braids By Bridget 🎀

I find L&N’s interesting and I find the lack of action and awareness frustrating. It’s really only the companies trying to sell their ‘removal’ products that talk about Lice & Nits - but it’s not really in their best interest to educate on prevention, cause how would they sell their products then? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Once upon a time schools had a ‘Nit Nurse’ (side note: bring back the Nit Nurse, I volunteer 🙋🏼‍♀️) and the Nit Nurse would check each child routinely- I’m not sure if this was annually, per term or based off a suspected infestation percentage head count? Did you ever get checked by a Nit Nurse? How did it make you feel? Please share 🤓

I get it though, no child wants to be singled out. No child wants to be pointed at for being the host, the mother ship 🚢 but all our kids - both girls & boys, both long & short hair can be subjected to these creepy crawlies - and it’s not the end of the world if they catch them. Correct treatment is paramount.

The best thing parents can do to help prevent their child from an infestation is to reduce the access for lice to crawl from one head to another.

Think of a loose ponytail as lots of little on-ramps for those bugs to crawl along ❌ A simple step; plait the ponytail to reduce the number of on-ramps ✅
