PSA: “Opalite” doesn’t always mean man-made!
The name Opalite is a little more complicated than you might think. While it’s commonly used today as a trade name for manufactured opalescent glass, the term has also been used for natural common opal.
Moss Opalite is one example of natural opal that can show those beautiful mossy or branching inclusions.
So when you see “Opalite” on a label, it’s worth finding out what material you’re actually looking at!

Your Mookaite didn’t start life as a pretty polished stone.
Its story began in an ancient Australian sea, with millions of years of geological change still to come.
The sediment that formed the Windalia Radiolarite included the tiny silica-rich remains of marine organisms called radiolarians. Over time, geological processes altered the material and helped produce the colourful rock we now know as Mookaite.
So the next time you look at a piece of Mookaite, you’re looking at a tiny piece of Australia’s ancient geological history.

I asked Arli to choose between a Rose Quartz & Green Aventurine rose. Would you have chosen the same?
Ancient crystal lore was often deeply connected to colour.
In ancient Egyptian symbolism, green could evoke water, vegetation, life and regeneration. Green stones and other green materials were therefore used in objects and amulets where those ideas were meaningful.
Malachite’s vivid green makes it particularly interesting in this context. But the story isn’t simply “green stone = regeneration”. Ancient Egyptian symbolism could draw meaning from the colour, material, shape and imagery of an object together.
Sometimes, the colour of a material was just as important as the material itself.

Look closely at this Blue Lace Agate.
That little pocket of tiny crystals is a beautiful example of the kinds of crystal growth that can happen in the open spaces of an agate.
Agate forms through the deposition of silica, often within cavities in rock. As silica is deposited over time, it can form the fine-grained chalcedony that makes up agate, while more crystalline quartz can develop in remaining open spaces.
No glitter. No added crystals. Just geology doing its thing.
