MARIE STUART’S FAREWELL TO HER ATTENDANCE

We spent yesterday installing this mammoth fireplace that we pick up at auction this week. This is probably the home purchase I have been the most excited about. It won’t live here forever, we just wanted to be able to look at it until we build our extension. This will eventually live in our new living room when we build it. We did have to move almost every big piece of furniture in our house to make it work.
This piece is an authentic late 19th-century enclosed fireplace surround designed in the ornate Renaissance Revival style. It is crafted from a substantial, dark-stained oak. But this carving in the middle is where it gets really cool. The central high-relief panel on this fireplace depicts the historic scene “Mary Queen of Scots’ Farewell to her Attendants”.This poignant imagery captures the moments leading up to her ex*****on at Fotheringhay Castle in 1587.
What I love about antiques is that you can buy something truly unique and beautiful for the same price as something new. This was already a fraction of the price of new mantel pieces that we have looked at. It will@also bring a feeling of history to the extension we are going to build.
The guys at were nice enough to send me and Paul this Bluetooth speaker and camping lamp in one the Tresound Q so that we could try it out. I had reached out to the company about a month ago because we had wanted to buy this kickstarter a portable Bluetooth record player, CD player and tape player that is wall mounted and they got back to me and asked if I wanted to try out their new Bluetooth speaker and clamping lamp. I’ve had it with me all weekend and it’s been great while we’ve been renovating. It’s just so easy to move around, the hook makes it really handy for hanging on things and it’s created great mood lighting. I’m sure it’ll be great sometime when we do go camping anyway give a checkout

Look what we found Easter weekend .
Today's task is making this mantel straight and planning for this bedroom. This room was already a dark red and we decided to probably keep it this colour. 1 because I really don’t want to paint over this red and 2 we kind of like the idea of a red in red room. These curtains are just up to get a feel. This has been my gym for the last 4 years. We also slept in this room while we redid the primary bedroom. As a gym the red felt wrong but as a bedroom it was really cozy, so that’s another reason to keep it. At first glance this room looks great but once you take a closer look it needs a lot of work. The 3 big things are this fireplace not sitting flush, the skirting having a big enough gap that you can see outside also means bugs can get inside as well as cold and the ceiling is a mess. Someone has just glued plaster sheeting over old horse hair plaster and not taped up before plastering so you can see all the edges (this will be one of my big jobs). The decorative plaster is also a mess but we are going to try and save that. Watch this space for more updates
